Eugenie Smit

Having grown up in South Africa I spent a large part of my childhood in nature where I was introduced to palaeontology, minerals and the beauty and fragility of animals and humans in the natural world. My ceramic works mostly focussed on these themes.
In contrast, I then started sculpting car parts, go-kart parts and tools. Initially to remember things while teaching myself mechanical engineering because I decided to race. I enjoy the precision and challenge of it.
My works are unique, hand built and I colour with glazes, stains and oxides.
These sculptures are all unique. I don't use moulds to create them. I sometimes add discarded bits from race tracks or kart circuits and I reclaim metal and other interesting things from old electronic devices.
